SNAP Benefits: November Disruption & Local Help in Westbrook


What’s happening

Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has notified states that SNAP benefits (food stamps) will not be issued for the month of November. Benefits already loaded on EBT cards from October and earlier remain available to use.

You are not alone—help is available locally, and your inquiry is confidential.

  • Call the Westbrook General Assistance Office: (207) 591-7015

  • Visit: 426 Bridge Street, Westbrook, ME

  • Our team will review your situation one-on-one and may provide emergency or interim assistance to bridge the gap.

Confidentiality: The General Assistance program is confidential. Your information is kept private and treated with respect.

Additional community resources

  • 211 Maine: Call 2-1-1, text your ZIP code to 898-211, or visit 211maine.org to find statewide food and housing support.

  • Local partners:

    • First Baptist Church (733 Main St): Pantry Sundays 11:30–12:15; Community Meal third Saturday 4:30–6:00.

    • Stroudwater Christian Church (1520 Westbrook St, Portland): Pantry Sundays 1–3 p.m.

    • Westbrook Community Center (426 Bridge St): Pantry Tuesdays 11–1; Community Meal Wednesdays 5–6 p.m.

    • Vineyard Church (715 Bridgton Rd): Pantry Fridays 5:30–6:20 p.m.

    • (Hours may change around holidays—check partner pages or call ahead.)
